The University of Cambridge, in partnership with BDP, has announced plans to restore the Grade II* listed History Faculty Building by James Stirling. Part of the iconic 1960s “Red Trilogy,” the structure houses the Seeley Library and is renowned for its post-war architectural significance. The project aims to enhance learning and workspaces at the Sidgwick site.

Inform Design was appointed following a review of the Stage 3 assessments for the vertical facades and the Reading Room. In more detail:

  • Validation task for proper performance assessments of the proposed Okasolar W slats using Raytracing and Dynamic Thermal Modelling methods.

  • Solar performance assessment of several facade configurations for the vertical facades to assist the Design Team in selecting the most suitable configuration.

  • Thermal comfort assessments for the Reading Room to ensure that we provide a sound thermal environment for the occupants by providing a skylight with adequate solar control without excessively harming daylight levels.
